Mr. John Blair

Mr. John Blair , An early and prominent settler of Mornington, was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He emigrated to Victoria in 1853 where he followed gold mining at Bendigo

Castlemaine, and other places, and arrived in New Zealand in 1862. He went to the Dunstan rush, but did not meet with much success. Later on the became employed in the firm of Mr. John Reid, and owing to subsequent changes in the firm, he with the late Mr. Robert Nimmo purchased the business. altering the title of the firm to Messrs Nimmo and Blair, now so well known throughout New Zealand. After a most successful career Mr. Blair retired from business in 1894. He has always taken an active interest in the Presbyterian church, and has been an elder of St. Andrew's church for a number of years, acting as Sessions Clerk page 375 for some time. He is also one of the trustees of the Otago Church Board of Property. Mr. Blair has been twice married, the second time to Miss Hunter, and has one child.
