The First Portion

The First Portion of the Kaikorai Presbyterian Church, Kaikorai Valley, was erected about 1868. It was enlarged in 1881. page 179 the whole building costing about £1300. The sistes for both the church and the manse were a gift from the late Miss Hood. The old manse and sites were sold in 1901, and a new manse was built on a new site at a cost of over £1400. The church seats 400 people; and the Sunday school has an attendance of 200. The first minister was the Rev. William Alves. M.A., from 1868 to 1872. He was succeeded by the Rev. Alex. Blake—1872 to 1878. The present minister, the Rev. R. R M. Sutherland, was ordained and inducted in 1879.
