The Peaks Village Settlement

The Peaks Village Settlement, which was formed in 1887 by eighteen settlers taking up 900 acres of land on the perpetual lease system, is situated on a part of the Horsley Down run. There has been no forfeiture in the settlement, and all the original settlers are still there, with the exception of those who have sold out their interests. Many settlers have extended their holdings, and the aggregate area of the settlement is about 8000 acres. The cottages have a neat and comfortable appearance, and are surrounded by plantations of shelter trees, originally the gift of the late Mr. J. D. Lance.
