Mr. Albert Lamb Smith, Partner in the firm of Messrs Blackburne and Smith, is a native of London, and arrived in New Zealand in 1866. He was educated at private schools in Christchurch, and, on his return to England, in 1873, he continued his studies in that country. Mr. Smith returned to Christchurch in 1876, and was for fifteen years engaged in various commercial pursuits. He established a lime and cement agency in Christchurch in 1891, and shortly afterwards joined Mr. Blackburne.
