The Rev. William Dawson, the Pastor of the Papanui Wesleyan Church, is a native of Northumberland. After coming to the colony he attended classes at the Otago University for some time, afterwards going to Three Kings' College, Auckland, He was ordained at the Dunedin Conference in 1894, and appointed to the change of the Inglewood Church, Taranaki.
