Wesleyan Church

page 204

Wesleyan Church, Papanui. In 1858 the present church site of an acre was purchased, and a small building, which cost £90, was built to serve for church and school. Within a few years the increase of membership necessitated an enlargement and the foundation stone of the present building was laid by Mr. Garrick, on the 18th of November, 1869. The church was erected at an outlay of £500, and was opened on the 27th of February, 1870.
