Miss Emily Funston

Miss Emily Funston, who has been Organist of the Roman Catholic ProCathedral, Christchurch, since 1881, was born in London, came to Canterbury when a child, and received her musical education under Messrs. N. G. Barnet and W. A. Simms. She became organist of St. John's church,

Latimer Square, in 1878, and six months later was appointed to a similar position at Holy Trinity church, Avonside. In 1887, Miss Funston gave a very successful concert in Christchurch, in which she was assisted by many prominent musicians, and was honoured with many flattering press notices. She is a member of the Society of Professional Musicians.
