St. Mark's Church

St. Mark's Church, Opawa, is a fine wooden building, which was erected in 1865. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Selwyn, the first Primate of New Zealand, and Bishop Patterson, the first Bishop of Melanesia, also took part in the ceremony. The church is finely situated, and surrounded by shady trees of various kinds; and the vicarage, which is within a short distance, stands in well-kept grounds, with an orchard. The interior of the church is very attractive with several coloured glass windows, and there is an excellent pipe organ.
