St. Michael And All Angels Church, Lichfield Street, Oxford Terrace, Christchurch. This church was the first in Canterbury, but the old building was demolished years ago, all except the picturesque bell-tower, which has been retained to excellent purpose in respect to the appearance of the church and its association with the past. The situation, close to the beautiful banks of the river Avon, is fine in the extreme. St. Michael's possesses a fine pipe organ, and a well-trained surpliced choir takes part in the service. There is seat accommodation for about 700 persons, and the parish has a population of about 5000.
