Fencourt

Fencourt.

Fencourt takes its name from a fine estate which for a number of years has been administered by the Assets Company. It has recently been subdivided into a number of farms, many of which have been sold, and the population of the district has thus been increased by the advent of new settlers. The flag station bearing the same name is on the Cambridge-Ruakura Junction branch railway, distant ninety-seven miles from Auckland, and 197 feet above sea level. The borough of Cambridge is four miles from Fencourt.

Fencourt Homestead (Miss Amy L. Gibbons, proprietress) was originally the centre of the large property of Fencourt, which has recently been subdivided for closer settlement. The house is surrounded by some fine orchards, and the estate is utilised for sheep-farming.

Miss Amy L. Gibbons, Proprietress, was born in Nelson, and educated in Gisborne and at Napier College. She is sister of Mrs John Thorpe, of Paeroa, and was for some years a teacher by profession, and acquired the Fencourt Homestead, with 495 acres, in 1900.

Mr. Arthur Gibbons, Manager of Fencourt Homestead, was born at Napier in 1879, and was educated in Sydney. Having studied at Sydney Agricultural College for four years, he returned to New Zealand, and took up his present position.
