Foote Bros

Foote Bros. (Frederick Foote and William Gibbons Foote), Sawmillers and Timber Merchants, Whakapara, near Whangarei. Bankers, Bank of New Zealand. Whangarei. The original mills were started in 1889 and subsequently were removed to the present site at Whakapara in 1897. Messrs. Foote Bros. (who are large contractors for the Kauri Timber Company, Auckland) have taken up extensive blocks of land in the Puhipuhi bush and have transformed the township of Whakapara into one of some importance by giving employment to a great number of men. The logs are hauled from the bush to the mills by means of a traction engine specially procured for the work, and the timber is forwarded by rail to Whangarel for shipment to Auckland.
