Mcleod, Donald Murray

Mcleod, Donald Murray, Coach Proprietor and Boardinghouse-keeper, Waipu. Mr. McLeod was born at Cape Breton, British North America, in 1850, and came with his parents to New Zealand ten years later. After spending some years in Auckland he visited the Thames goldfields, where he resided about five years, and afterwards was employed on a sheep and cattle run near Gisborne for a similar period. Mr. McLeod then went to Waipu, where he started his line of coaches conveying the mails from Marsden Point to Waipu. He has also a comfortable well-conducted bearding establishment of fourteen rooms under the direct supervision of Mrs. McLeod. Mr. McLeod takes a great interest in sporting matters, and is a prominent member of the Waipu Jockey Club of which he was the original promoter. He is a fine vocalist and takes part in all the local concerts. He is married and has seven children.
