Mr. J. W. Tibbs
Mr. J. W. Tibbs,
M.A., of Keble College, Oxford, is the present Headmaster in the Auckland Grammar School. He is a native
of Hobart, Tasmania, and the eldest son of Mr. Charles Tibbs, and was educated at the Hutchins and High Schools, Hobart. After gaining the Senior Tasmanian Scholarship of 1874, he matriculated at the University of Oxford, and graduated B.A. in 1879, after gaining a second class in Mathematical Moderations and a second class in the Final School of Mathematical Honours. He took his degree of M.A. in 1883. Mr. Tibbs held the position of chief mathematical master of St. Edward's School, Oxford, from 1879 to 1881; when he returned to Tasmania to take

the position of mathematical master of the High School, Hobart In May, 1885, he was appointed chief mathematical master of the Auckland College and Grammar School; and, on the departure of Mr. C. F. Bourne, M.A., from Auckland, to assume the headmastership of Christ's College, Christchurch, he was appointed headmaster by the Board of Governors.
