Hon. Thomas Thompson

Hon. Thomas Thompson, sometime senior member for Auckland City, was returned at the general elections in 1896, by a large majority. There were no less than ten candidates in the field on that occasion in the interests of several conflicting parties. Out of a total of 36,819 votes recorded, Mr. Thompson polled 7,192; Messrs Holland and Crowther being the next two successful candidates for the triple seat. Mr. Thompson is fully referred to on page 1494 of the Wellington volume of this work. He retired from politics and from Mr. Seddon's Government at the close of the year 1899.
