Carterton Magistrate's Court is held fortnightly in the Courthouse, Library Street, off High Street, when Mr. Hutchison, S.M., attends, special police cases being taken as required by the local justices. The building is a structure of wood and iron, containing courtroom, public offices, and magistrate's room. Mr. W. W. Smart, police constable in charge of Carterton district, acts as clerk and bailiff of the local Court.

Acheson, Robert John, Barrister and Solicitor, High Street, Carterton. P.O. Box 5. Bankers, Bank of New Zealand, branch Greytown North. Private residence, High Street. Mr. Acheson is a native of the Colony. He was educated at Christ's College, Christchurch, and was articled to Mr. J. E. Warner, of Grey. page 914 mouth, completing in 1886, when he passed the prescribed examinations, and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor. Mr. Acheson at once entered upon the practice of his profession at Westport, and continued in the latter place till 1889, when he removed to Carterton, and established the present business.

Izard, Henry Stratton, Solicitor, High Street, Carterton. This branch of Mr. Izard's business is conducted as an agency from Greytown, and was established in 1894. Mr. Ernest Wiseman is the manager for Carterton.
