Hodge, Henry Kirke, Settler, “Te Owhanga,” Birmingham. Mr. Hodge, who is a son of the late Rev. Chas. Hodge, was born in Nottinghamshire in 1841, and arrived in the Colony at the age of sixteen. His first years of colonial life were spent in Canterbury and Otago. In 1864 he took up a run, in conjunction with his brother, of 30,000 acres in the Te Anau district, but sold out after twelve years, taking up another of 5000 acres close to Lake Wakatipu, with his brother as a partner. After two years' experience on this run he left the South Island and finally settled on his present holding, a compact farm of 200 acres. Mr. Hodge was married in 1875 to a daughter of the late Rev. Taylor-White, of Nottinghamshire.
