The Hon. James Paterson

The Hon. James Paterson, M.L.C., joined the second Stafford Government in October, 1865 as a member of the Executive Council without portfolio, and in May of the following year was allotted the portfolio of Postmaster-General, which he held till the 24th of August, 1866 when he resigned his offices. Mr. Paterson first entered the Legislature in the House of Representatives as member for Dunedin. He was called to the Legislative Council on the 17th of June, 1869, and for about fifteen years exercised the functions of his office. The honourable gentleman vacated his seat in the year 1884, and died within a year or two of that time.
