While staying in Auckland, I met the City Council, on the subject of Water Works, and offered to make surveys for them on payment of Expenses. From the prevalence of large fires the sanitary requirements of this badly drained City, the necessary outlay for Water Works would be money well spent. I took Dunny to see some swimming matches, with which he much pleased, and says he shall learn to swim. A freehold Coal field of 4000 Acres with some steamers and trading on the Waikato River, a Corn Mill and a Flax Mill, were offered to me for sale. I also spent a pleasant evening at Judge Fenton’s, where we had glee singing – and pleasant society.
