New Zealand Whales and Dolphins

About The Author

About The Author

Dr Alan Baker has had a keen interest in marine life since his childhood in the Bay of Islands, Northland. He is a graduate in zoology from Victoria University of Wellington, and has published a variety of scientific papers on echinoderms, tunicates, fishes, fossil whales, and the biota of antarctic lakes. His interests have taken him on numerous scientific expeditions around New Zealand and its offshore islands, and also to Antarctica, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Pacific Islands. His present research is mainly concerned with the distribution and relationships of Indo-Pacific echinoderms and marine mammals, and since 1969 he has pursued these interests as Curator of Echinoderms and Marine Mammals at the Dominion Museum, Wellington.
