Tuatara: Volume 4, Issue 3, September 1952

To our Readers

To our Readers

Some explanation for the ten months' interval since the last issue of Tuatara is owed to our subscribers. The main factor has been financial difficulties caused by the gap between production costs and our charges for Tuatara. Over the years the former have risen several times, while the subscription for Tuatara has been raised only once, and we wish to avoid having to raise it again. Financial assistance from Stage III and Honours Zoology students, Honours Botany students and the staff from both departments at Victoria College, and an anonymous donor from Wellington who forwarded £2/2/-, has enabled us to resume publication. Nevertheless readers can assist us further by enlisting new subscribers. A strong permanent subscription list is the surest way of consolidating funds for future issues. Substantial assistance comes from our advertisers, so we ask you to support them. Look through the advertisements and try our advertisers first, before going elsewhere for what you require. Students who are completing their degrees this year should make sure that they receive Tuatara in the future by paying the subscription of 5/- for the new volume now in preparation.

This year the Biological Society offers Christmas cards for sale to its friends and well-wishers. For the cover page there are six different designs depicting well-known New Zealand plants and birds, viz: Mountain Daisy, Mountain Buttercup, Enargea, Notornis, King Shag and Little Blue Penguin. Inside the cover there is a short poem on each subject, together with a brief description of the plant or bird. The right inside page bears the words ‘Season's Greetings’. The cards are attractive and have been designed by the Biological Society to assist in financing Tuatara. They are available at 3/6 per set, or 6 sets for £1, cash with order.

You will be informed when your subscription is due. Please pay promptly to avoid the extra work and postage involved in sending our reminders.
