Mr. Amos McKegg
Mr. Amos McKegg, White House Hotel, Henley. Born in the year 1840, in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Ireland; brought up to a seafaring life (six years at sea). Arrived in Melbourne 1859; ran away from ship "Cairngorm." Various experiences in mining at the Snowy River Ovens, Creswick, Ballarat, and elsewhere. Arrived in New Zealand September, 1861, in the ship "Empress of the Seas," and proceeded to Weatherstones, where he was fairly successful. Settled on the Taieri 1863. Mr. McKegg has had a chequered experience in butchering, store-keeping, contracting, etc. He married in 1864, and has a large family. Now resides at the White House Hotel, Henley. He now runs an excursion steam-yacht on the Taieri River (s.s."Waiwera").
