Frog hunt

Now I am compliant,
complicit, scholarly.

Willow trees excepted, it was still.
Little by little, you teach your autumn to catch flies, then the flies
flit away.

I am a small boy
and I am resonant: made
a fishhook out of wire and spite
while the day went on with laughter and elsewhere
adventures. A fishhook that gleamed

like water and lull. I am slim,
my mother is an engineer, my father is a priest.
We could not grow rice, frogs or willow leaves.

I am a small boy inventing things.
