* 1877 elected as member of the Patea Harbour Board. * 1879 appointed member of the Patea Town Board. * 1880’s elected Chairman of the Patea School Committee (serving 8 years). * 1880’s served on the Wanganui Education Board. * 1880’s appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors to the Hurleyville Dairy Factory Co. * 1881 became foundation member of the Patea Domain Board. * 1881 appointed Town Councillor – foundation member serving 22 years. * 1883 became a JP. * 1883 elected Mayor of Patea following the resignation of John Milroy. He served as Mayor from 1883-84, 1887-88 & 1893-94. * 1875 he was instrumental in establishing the Patea Hospital Board – presided as Chairman from its inception. * 1888 serves on the Licensing Commission. * 1890 receives notice from the Secretary of the Minister of Justice confirming his appointment as “Commission of the Peace”. * 1894 joins the Patea Kilwinning Masonic Lodge.
