Amnesty International Amnesty International works for the release of prisoners of conscience wherever they are found - in The Eastern Block, in pro-Western or non-aligned countries. Amnesty International Amnesty International works for the release of prisoners of conscience wherever they are found - in The Eastern Block, in pro-Western or non-aligned countries. Each Al group concentrates on three prisoners, one from each of the categories mentioned above. Names and details of prisoners are assigned by Amnesty's research division in London. Groups attempt to improve the morale and wellbeing of prisoners while seeking their release. Amnesty International also undertakes other projects. Last year, for example, a worldwide Campaign against Torture was mounted. The Kelburn Group of Amnesty, one of several in New Zealand, is currently seeking new members. If you are concerned about the plight of people harassed and imprisoned for non-violent expression of their beliefs you are invited to attend our next meeting at 22 Kelburn Parade at 7.30pm.
