About Kōtare

Guidelines for Contributors

Guidelines for Contributors

Kōtare aims to provide a publishing avenue comparable to Notes and Queries (Oxford); that is, it seeks to publish brief, primarily factual articles on New Zealand history, literature, language, bibliography and lexicography. Articles may be of any length up to around 3000 words. Kōtare also encourages the publication of archival material of any length in each of these areas.

Submissions may, in the first instance, be sent in typescript (two copies) or in electronic format. All material submitted for publication is peer-reviewed. Once an article has been accepted for publication, submission in electronic format is preferred (though not essential).

Typed submissions should be double-spaced throughout and provided with generous margins. Electronic submission may be on disk or as an attached document by e-mail. Please specify your word-processing program and operating system. Formatting of electronic copy should be kept to a minimum; essential formatting which relies on a particular font must be detailed on the original typescript.

Diagrams and tables should be supplied as good quality camera-ready copy in addition to any electronic form.

Contributors are urged to keep copies of their submitted work, as typescripts will not normally be returned.

Articles must be prepared in accordance with the 4th edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (ed. Gibaldi, 1995), using parenthetical citations in the text and an alphabetical list of works cited. Notes will appear as footnotes and should be reserved for brief comment or explanation, not for citations. Notes should be keyed with superscript Arabic numerals.

Citations in languages other than English should be followed in the text by translations in parentheses.

Please indicate institutional affiliation as appropriate.

Contributors are responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions to print material. Please provide evidence of such permission as appropriate.
