Cold, dull day. Hamilton going on well, Willy better. Rather frightened by seeing a boatful of Maoris making for the Island this afternoon, but they did not land, and at a late hour the cattle were undisturbed. Torlesse advises me to let it, if possible, get to the issue of a trespass of this kind, by which I may try the point before the Resident Magistrate's Court. Chanting in church was very good. Tea with Godley—Mr and Mrs FitzGerald, singing from Elijah.
