the author: D. J. C. Pringle received his secondary education at Gore High School and graduated BA at Otago University in 1926. He attended Dunedin Training College and taught in several Southland and Otago schools before he went overseas in April 1941 with the 5th Reinforcements. He served in 20 Battalion and in 20 Armoured Regiment in North Africa and Italy and returned to New Zealand in April 1945. He is at present headmaster of West Spreydon School, Christchurch.

W. A. Glue was educated at Christchurch Boys' High School and Canterbury University College and before the war was a reporter on the Christchurch Press. He served two years in 20 Battalion before being invalided home at the end of 1941 and was later Officer-in-charge Archives at Army Headquarters. Since 1947 he has been sub-editor of the War History Branch.
