The Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs to the Governor-General of New Zealand

24 January 1940

Your telegram of 13 January (No. 68). The Admiralty state that the escort arrangements communicated to the New Zealand Naval Board in their telegram of 28 December,2 and concurred in by the Board in their message of 30 December,3 are still considered adequate. Should the situation change, the necessary measures will be taken by the Admiralty to provide whatever additional protection the circumstances may require.

In addition to the agreed escort of one cruiser for each group after passing Aden, the Admiralty state further that arrangements have been made to double the Perim patrol while the convoy is in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
