The Legal Student
Is a fatuous
And self-opiniated mite
He crawls through text-books
As through a cheese
And thinks
That by growing fat on the past
He will rule the future.
At night
He drams of fame
Be-wigged and briefed
And in the day-time
He licks stamps.
He chews Latin phrases
Like Spearmint,
Drawing them out
To their full length,
And on public holidays
He studies Torts.
He imagines
That in the case
Life v. Legal student
The defendant
Will get Judgment
With costs.
He throws out his chest
That in the future
His lies
May carry conviction.
I hope he lies
As calmly
In his grave.
