Club Notes.

University Women's Club.

After several months discussion and initial planning, the University Women's Club has now—August, 1927—come into existence. Whether or no its life will be long, depends on the support given it by the different generations of women-students, for its promoters realize that it cannot be of any real usefulness and pleasure unless a member can be sure of meeting there others of her own year, sharing her college interests and memories.

The subscription of the Club is small, and purposely so. in order that membership may be within the means of those (and their ilk) whose College motto is "Sapientia magis auro desideranda." Membership is open to graduates and to present and past students of any recognised University College the world over, and there is also a small number of associate members—women who have been of service in education and yet are not University members.

The Club room is in the Dominion Farmers' Institute—high up—with a lift stopping at the door. It is a "tower room," with a balcony whence is a fine view out over the shipping and the harbour, and up the Hutt Valley to the mountains. For tea and luncheon, tables are reserved for club members in the Institute Tea Rooms in the basement, but if any member wishes tea to be served in the Club Room itself, it will be done for parties of six or more. The colour scheme of the Club room is grey, beige, and rose, and though luxuries-such as a piano—may be lacking, the essentials are there in the shape of easy chairs and chesterfields.

Meanwhile, what is necessary is a good membership, so that interests may be formed within the Club, and the social life made active. A bridge circle, a play reading circle, and a discussion club are some of the schemes mooted. Any information about the Club and membership will be gladly given by the Hon. Secretary, Miss Roberts, Sayes Court. Mrs. Adamson is President of the Club, and Miss Watson is Chairwoman of the Executive Committee, whose members are well representative of different College years, and of various aspects of University life.
