The Rev. James Barr, M.P.

The Rev. James Barr, B.D., M.P., whose visit to this country in August was extensively advertised in the newspapers, gave a short but interesting hour to students at Victoria College. Some thirty students gathered to lunch in the College Tea rooms on Monday, August 15th, and Mr. Barr addressed them on "The Social Task of the Church." He said enough to show that he had made ample use of his University career, and had applied to every department of life, religious, political and social, the enlightened viewpoint of an educated man.

Questions were permitted, and Mr. Barr gave a frank answer to those asked him. In reply to a student, who asked if the Church, as a whole, in Great Britain was definitely committed to the cause of "no more war," Mr. Barr said that the position was much the same as in New Zealand. The clergy bestowed their almost unanimous blessing on the movement; and some were really enthusiastic. Their followers were not completely in sympathy, and many were avowedly opposed to the League of Nations, but a growing number of them showed an intelligent interest in its work.
