The Spike: or, Victoria University College Review, June 1923
"Spike" Speaks
"Spike" Speaks
With what hard toil but undiminished zest
I have discovered for you, year by year,
Fresh shapes of Beauty, Wisdom crystal-clear,
And flashing Wit—which else had lain unguessed
Within the bashful undergraduate breast,
Is known to everyone. But now I fear
To end for ever the adventurous quest.
Then, get a move on. Send without delay
Some little contribution, grave or gay,
Or sentimental (if it's not too sloppy).
Also your subs. And don't expect the Sec.
To wear his soul out asking for your cheque.
They also help who only buy one copy.
