Soldier Scholars

Soldier Scholars

The Board of Governors of the N.Z.E.F. Department of Education met on 31st January, and awarded a number of scholarships, to be held at English Universities by members of the Force. Among them were the following Graduates and Undergraduates of Victoria University College:—

Sapper R. M. Bruce. Divisional Signal Company, B.Sc. To study applied chemistry and metallurgy at the Imperial College of Science and Birmingham University.

Sergeant P. W. Burbidge, N.Z.R.B., M.Sc. Research work in physics at Trinity College, Cambridge. Mr. Burbidge went to Cambridge in 1913 as a Colonial Exhibition scholar, but had to abandon it on account of his health.

Sergeant Ward H. Udy, N.Z.F.A. To study agricultural science at King's College. London.

Staff-Sergeant F. W. Foster, N.Z.M.C. To study music at the Royal Academy, London, and at the Royal College of Organists.

Sergeant D. M'Leod, Wellington Regiment, M.A., Glasgow, B.Sc., New Zealand. To study arts and engineering at Glasgow.

Lieutenant H. Henderson, 2nd Canterbury Regiment, B.A. Chemistry, physics, and mathematics at Cambridge or London.
