The Spike: or, Victoria University College Review, June 1919

The Editor's Chair

The Editor's Chair

Once again the composition of the "Spike" Committee has changed. This year there are two co-editors, two sub-editors, a representative from the Graduates' Association, and, lastly, a hunter of advertisements, commonly known as the Financial Secretary.

As the above committee was appointed and held its first meeting ten days before going to press, the reader must refrain from casting a too severely critical eye over these pages. Several unavoidable omissions have been made; for instance, there are no "Notes on Old Students" However, we hope to rectify these omissions as far as possible in the October issue.

Nine days is scarcely sufficient length of time in which to invoke successfully the frenzied muse; but it has been done. All contributors must be heartily thanked for coming to the assistance of their Magazine at such short notice. Club Secretaries, too, are to be commended for getting in their various reports.

There is just one other point we would like to mention. During the last few years it has seemed to us that, in connection with "The Spike," there has been an excess of critical, and a decided lack of creative, work on the part of the majority of the students. No one will deny that it is indeed a good thing for our Magazine to have a host of willing critics to indicate the error of its ways; but we think that if these same students would put their shoulders to the wheel and direct their energy towards producing some real, live copy, they would have no reason to worry about the future of " The Spike."
