Hockey Supper

Hockey Supper.

On the 20th of July at 8 p. m. in the Common Room, a large number of students gathered together to honour the Otago University Hockey Team, and incidentally to partake of the fare page 55 provide by the Hockey Club. The evening passed all too quickly. Various toasts were proposed with varying success. J. C. Pope, in proposing the toast of "Our Visitors," characterised it as the most important toast of the evening, expressed his surprise at having been called upon to propose it, and stated the he had nothing much to say. All the other proposers of toasts expressed the name sentiments; in fact almost the only speeches worthy of the name were made by Otago students. The various interjections, however, gave the vigour necessary to make the speeches go. Recitations and music helped to speed the fleeting hours, the chief contributors being N. White (Otago) and A. H. Bogle.
