This Deed made the Sixteenth day of August One thousand eight hundred and seventy1871. 16 August.Hawke's Bay. one Between Karaitiana Takamoana, Te Wirihana Kaimokopuna, Manahi Paewai, Te Watene Te. Moko, Hoepa Paewai, Rora Piripi, Ihaka Te Awe Awe, Atareta Pakihai, Erina Porapora, Hoani Meihana, Hami Potangaroa, Karaitiana Te Korou, Marakaia Tawaroa, Heketa Te Awe, Atemata Te Wharekiri, Herewini Te Whareraupo, Pine Hakopa, Karauria Matuakainga, Hamuera Pakaiahi, Ihaia Te Ngarara, Hera Hiahia, Maata Te Aopukahu, Kaninamu Te Hauerangi, Ihipera Te Wharekiri, Nepe Te Apatu, Hori Hukahuka, Wehi Reihana, Erueti Tanguru, Iriwaata Hanita, Herewini Tamihana, Ripata Moruki, Paora Ropiha, Tipene Apatu, Ropata Te Hoakakari, Waione Pungaorangi, Pete Ropata, Matina Waikura, Oriwia Te Hori, Matenga Kurukore, Hemi Te Uranga, Hataraka, Hiraka Tahua, Tanguru, Pani Tohare, Maka Mukakai, Maka Mukakai, Maata Te Pare, Pine Patoromu, Porikapa Tamaiotua, Hori Pouri, Hori Niania, Horomona Papanui, Hoani Tohu, Renata Ropiha, Hori Ropiha, Winiata Takataka, Heta Tiki, Nopera Apiata, Matenga and Hoani Ngaihi Aboriginal Natives of New Zealand hereinafter called called the vendors of the one part, and Her Majesty Victoria page 566Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, of the other part Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Sixteen Thousand Pounds paid to the said vendors by Her said Majesty (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) They the said vendors according to their respective estate and interest do and each of them doth hereby transfer surrender and yield up unto Her said Majesty Queen Victoria and Her Successors All those blocks of land situate in the Province of Hawke's Bay and Wellington in the Colony of New ZealandBlocks purchased. containing together Two hundred and Fifty thousand acres (250,000) more or less and known as Puketoi Number one containing Thirty seven thousand acres Block Puketoi Number two containing Twenty eight thousand five hundred acres more or less Block Puketoi Number three containing Thirty three thousand four hundred acres more or less Block Puketoi Number four containing Thirty one thousand acres more or less Block Puketoi Number five containing fifteen thousand five hundred acres more or less Block Te Ahuaturanga containing Twenty one thousand acres more or less Block Maharahara containing Thirteen thousand acres more or less Block Manawatu Number one otherwise known as Block Umutaoroa containing Seventeen thousand acres more or less Block Manawatu number three otherwise known as block Te Ohu containing Twenty thousand six hundred acres more or less Block Manawatu number five otherwise known as Block Ngamoko containing fifteen thousand acres more or less Block Manawatu number six otherwise known as Block Tuatua containing Nine thousand six hundred acres more or less and Block Manawatu number seven otherwise known as Block Rakaiatai containing Eight thousand two hundred acres more or less as the said blocks of land are particularly delineated on the plan hereto annexed with all the Minerals Waters Rivers Lakes Streams Trees and all rights-and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or appertaining thereto and all the estate right title claim and interest of them the said vendors therein To hold the same blocks and hereditaments unto Her said Majesty Queen Victoria and Her Successors for ever reserving nevertheless and excepting from this present deed all those parcels containing Nineteen thousand Eight hundred and Seventy (19,870) acres more or less (portion of the Lands hereby surrendered) as the same are described in the Schedule hereunder written and are also delineated on the said plan hereto annexed In witness whereof the said have hereunto subscribed their names.

Schedule of Lands reserved.

Native reserves. [19,870 acres.] All those parcels of Land being portions of the Land before described containing Two hundred and fifty thousand acres more or less and being portion of Manawatu Block No. 1 (Umutaoroa) situated between Tapuata stream and the northern boundary of the Tahoraiti Block No. 1 and the Tamaki stream estimated to contain Four thousand (4000) acres more or less—also that portion of Manawatu Block No. 3 (Te Ohu) situate between the Mangatawainui and Matamau streams, estimated to contain Thirteen Thousand Acres more or less—Also that portion of Manawatu Block No. 6 (Te Tuatua) containing Thirteen hundred and seventy acres (1370) more or less—also a Reserve containing One thousand acres (1000) more or less situate near Ngawapurua in the Ahuaturanga Block—Also a Reserve of Five hundred (500) acres more or less in the Ahuaturanga Block known as Te Rotoahiri, as the said parcels of Land are delineated on the plan hereto annexed.

The land intended to be reserved contains in the whole Nineteen thousand eight hundred and seventy acres more or less.

Receipt for £12,000, first instalment. The sum of Twelve thousand pounds sterling £12,000 being part of the above consideration money of Sixteen thousand pounds sterling (£16,000) has been paid this dayPrice, £16,000. to the said vendors (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged). The balance to be paid when the reserves are marked out and the purchase finally completed.
