This Deed1859. 11 August.Hawke's Bay. written on this 11th day of August 1859 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and people of Ngatipouwhirikura and Ngatimarau whose names are hereunto subscribed. And witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this deed under the shining sun of the present dayRuataniwha North. (Claims of Ropata and others.) parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed her and her and their Assigns for ever in considera-page 538tion of the sum of four hundred Pounds (£400) to us paid by Mr. McLean on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all those pieces of our Land situated at Waipawa and at Ruahine the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this deed with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and everything above or below the surface of the earth and all our right title claim andReceipt for £400. interest whatsoever in the said lands, to Hold unto Queen Victoria her heirs and assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for over. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this deed we have hereto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of thisBoundaries. deed it has also been subscribed by Mr. McLean, Commissioner. These are the boundaries — Beginning at the Umukuri and running on to Waiehu, thence te Waikaha thence to Taumata o Hinewa thence to the Kiri o te Rangihirawera where it turns and runs in the river to Ohinekorako thence to Whirikoka thence to the Kotinga o Ruatipua thence to the Waipawa, and thence following the Waipawa till it closes at the Umukuri. These are other places—Tahuahinu, te Wharekoko, te Pikari and te Rake, all which places lie adjacent to each other between the Makaroro and Mangatauri. These are also other places, Hinekotuhi and te Rere; Indeed they include all the lands belonging to Ropata and Pete and to all their relatives in those parts and which have all been sold this day.
