Schedule of Lands Reserved.

Native reserves. All those parcels of land being portions of the land before described containing one hundred and twenty five thousand (125,000) acres more or less and being portion of Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 1, otherwise known as Eketahuna block situated on the Makakahi Stream and estimated to contain one thousand (1000) acres more or less also that portion of Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 2b otherwise known as Pahi Atua block situated at the junction of the Makakahi and Mangatainoka streams and estimated to contain one thousand (1000) acres more or less, also those portions of Mangaohao block No. 1 known as Reserves of Peeti te Awe Awe, Mikaera te Rangiputara and Ihaka te Rangimauriora, and estimated to contain five hundred and thirty (530) acres, Two hundred and eighty nine (289) acres and Two hundred acres respectively more or less, also that portion of Mangaohao block No. 2 known as Huru's reserve and estimated to contain Three hundred and fifty (350) acres more or less; also that portion of Ngatapu block No. 1 situated on the Mangaone stream and estimated to contain five hundred (500) acres more or less, also that portion of Ngatapu block No. 2 situated near Taketake plain and estimated to contain five hundred (500) acres more or less.

Declaration of James Grindell. I, James Grindell, of Napier, in the Province of Hawke's Bay, Colony of New Zealand, Licensed Native Interpreter, do solemnly and sincerely declare,—
1.That I am a Licensed Interpreter under "The Native Lands Act, 1867."
2.That I was present on the tenth and eleventh days of October, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one, and did see the within-named Hoani Meihana, Hanita te Awe Awe, Mikaera te Rangiputara, Te Koeti te Harakoa, Henere te Herekau, Neri Puratahi, Epiha te Rimunui, Hamuera Maraetai, Pehira te Aokautere, Ihaka te Rangi, Tapatu Matene, Erihapeti Wakamairu, Henere te Mahukihuki, Ngakuku, Tihei, Horomona Paro, Karaitiana te Korou, Huru te Hiaro, Marakaia Tawaroa, Wata Tohu, Wi Waka Kahukura, Rorana Pehi, Patoromu te Kaka, Ihepera Hanita, Ereni te Awe Awe, Matene Ruta, Hirini Tuauru, Wi Tinitara, Tiheirangi, Wi te Matai, Peeti te Awe Awe, Wetere Taeore, and Himiona Waipapa, aboriginal natives of New Zealand, duly execute the within-written deed and the translation thereof hereto annexed and marked (A); and before they executed the same I faithfully translated and explained the said deed to them, and they appeared to perfectly understand the purport thereof, and executed the same in my presence and in the presence of Richard Booth, of Wellington, an adult European.
3.That the annexed translation of the said deed marked (A) is a true and correct translation thereof.

1871. 5 October.Wairarapa District. An agreement made between the undersigned aboriginal Natives of New Zealand hereinafter called the vendors of the one part and Her Majesty Queen Victoria of the other part, Whereas the said vendors are absolutely seized of or well entitled to the blocksseventy-mile bush(Agreement to sell.) of land hereinafter described and colored red on the tracing hereunto attached, Namely Kaihinu No. 1 22,000 acres Kaihinu No. 2 19,000 acres Mangaohao No. 1 23,000 acres Mangaohao No. 2 8,000 acres, Manawatu-Wairarapa No. 1 (Eketahuna) 6,000 acres, Manawatu-Wairarapa No. 2 (Mongorongo) 15,000 acres Manawatu-Wairarapa No. 2a (Pukahu) 6,000 acres Manawatu-Wairarapa No. 2b (Pahi Atua) 15,000 acres, Ngatapu No. 1 4,000 acres and Ngatapu No. 2 7,000 acres, and have agreed to cede the samePrice, £10,000. to Her said Majesty for the sum of Ten thousand pounds sterling (£10,000) as the purchase money, upon such terms as are hereinafter explained, Provided always that the portions of land hereinafter described and shewn on the tracing hereto annexed be excludedLands excluded. from this sale, namely, that portion of Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 1 (Eketahuna) situated on the Makakahi stream estimated to contain one thousand (1000) acres more or less, also that portion of Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 2b (Pahi Atua) situated at the junction of Makakahi and Mangatainoko streams estimated to contain one thousand (1000) acres more or less, also those portions of Mangaohao block No. 1 known as the reserves of Peeti te Awe Awe Mikaera te Rangiputara and Ihaka te Rangimauriora estimated to contain five hundred and thirty (530) acres, two hundred and eighty nine (289) acres and two hundred acres more or less respectively also that portion of Mangaohao block No. 2 known as Huru's reserve estimated to contain Three hundred and fifty acres more or less also that portion of Ngatapu block No. 1 situated on the Mangaone stream estimated to contain five hundred (500) acres more or less also that portion of the Ngatapu block No. 2 situated near Taketake plain estimated to contain five hundred (500) acres more or less.
It is hereby agreed as follows:—
1.The said vendors agree to sell and Her Majesty agrees to buy all the said blocks of land above mentioned containing in the aggregate one hundred and twenty thousand six hundred and thirty one acres more or less exclusive of the above mentioned reserves generally known as the Manawatu-Wairarapa block or seventy mile bush and situated in the Province of Wellington, for the sum of Ten thousand pounds sterling (£10,000).
2.Of the said purchase money six hundred and ninety five pounds Stg. has already been paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and the balance shall be paid on the execution of the final Deed of conveyance.
3.The said vendors agree to execute and cause to be executed by all necessary parties, a good and sufficient Deed of conveyance and surrender to Her said Majesty of the said blocks of land free from all incumbrances, the said Deed to be prepared at the expense of the purchaser.
4.Her said Majesty shall be at liberty to take immediate possession of the said lands hereby contracted for.
