Translation.

This Deed made the tenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and seventy one1871. 10 October.Wairarapa District. between Huru te Hiaro, Peeti te Awe Awe, Mikaira te Rangiputara, Patoromu te Kaka, Hoani Meihana, Henare te Herekau, Turau Ngawhina, Hoani Takerei, Epiha te Rimunui, Neri Puratahi, Wata Tohu, Marakaia Tawaroa, Wi Tinitara, Kataraina Mahuri, Karaitiana te Korou, Honare te Mahukihuki, Hemi Warena, Poitete, Ihaka te Rangi, HamueraSeventy-Mile Bush Maraetai, Riria Aronga, Rea Mikaera, Hipura Moeahuru, Hirini Tuauru, Wi Taukau, Matini Ruta, Te Waka Kahukura, Erihapeti te Whakamairu, Tapatu Matini, Tihei, Pinenau, Harerakena te Awe Awe, Meretini Rangahou, Hanita te Awe Awe, Horomona Paro, Wi te Matai, Erina te Awe Awe, Maraia te Ehungatai, Rorana Pehi, Karanama te Ra, Horima Mutuahi, Rota Moea, Akiura Takapo, Renata Paehora, Tungane, Matiri te Hinga, Koeti te Harakoa, Miriama te Rangi, Hutana Kaihinu Ahenata Tamaru, Wirihana Kaimokopuna, Pehira te Aokautere Ihepera Hanita, Ihaka te Rangimauriora, Poitete Taringa, Ngakuku, Tiheirangi and Rea Putara aboriginal Natives of New Zealand hereinafter called the vendors of the one part and Her Majesty Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland of the other part, Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Ten thousand pounds paid to the said vendors by her said Majesty (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) They the said vendors according to theirReceipt for £10,000. respective estate and interest do and each of them doth hereby transfer surrender and yield up unto Her said Majesty Queen Victoria and Her successors all those bloeks of land situate in the Province of Wellington in the Colony of New Zealand containing together one hundred and twenty five thousand (125,000) acres more or less and known[125,000 acres.] as Kaihinu Block No. 1 containing twenty two thousand (22,000) acres more or less, Kaihinu Block No. 2 containing nineteen thousand (19,000) acres more or less, Maugaohao Block No. 1 containing twenty three thousand (23,000) acres more or less Mangaohao block No. 2 containing eight thousand (8000) acres more or less, Manawatu- Wairarapa block No. 1 otherwise known as Eketahuna block containing six thousand (6000) acres more or less, Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 2 otherwise known as Mongorongo block containing fifteen thousand (15,000) acres more or less, Manawatu- Wairarapa block No. 2a otherwise known as Pukahu block containing six thousand page 384(6000) acres more or less, Manawatu-Wairarapa Block No. 2b otherwise known as Pahi Atua block containing fifteen thousand (15,000) acres more or less, Ngatapu block No. 1 containing Four thousand (4000) acres more or less and Ngatapu block No. 2 containing seven thousand (7000) acres more or less, as the said blocks of land are particularly delineated on the plan drawn in the margin hereof with all the minerals, waters, rivers, lakes, streams, trees and all rights and appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging or appertaining thereto and all the estate right title claim and interest of them the said vendors therein, To hold the same blocks and Hereditaments unto her said Majesty Queen Victoria and Her Successors for ever, reserving nevertheless and excepting from this present deed all those parcels containing four thousand three hundred and sixty nine (4369) acres more or less (being portion of the lands hereby surrendered) as the same is described in the schedule hereunder written and are also delineated on the said plan drawn in the margin hereof, In Witness whereof the said parties have hereunto subscribed their names.

Schedule of Lands Reserved.

Native reserves. All those parcels of land being portions of the land before described containing one hundred and twenty five thousand (125,000) acres more or less and being portion of Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 1, otherwise known as Eketahuna block situated on the Makakahi Stream and estimated to contain one thousand (1000) acres more or less also that portion of Manawatu-Wairarapa block No. 2b otherwise known as Pahi Atua block situated at the junction of the Makakahi and Mangatainoka streams and estimated to contain one thousand (1000) acres more or less, also those portions of Mangaohao block No. 1 known as Reserves of Peeti te Awe Awe, Mikaera te Rangiputara and Ihaka te Rangimauriora, and estimated to contain five hundred and thirty (530) acres, Two hundred and eighty nine (289) acres and Two hundred acres respectively more or less, also that portion of Mangaohao block No. 2 known as Huru's reserve and estimated to contain Three hundred and fifty (350) acres more or less; also that portion of Ngatapu block No. 1 situated on the Mangaone stream and estimated to contain five hundred (500) acres more or less, also that portion of Ngatapu block No. 2 situated near Taketake plain and estimated to contain five hundred (500) acres more or less.
