1859. 31 January.This Deed written on this the 31st day of January in the Year of our Lord 1859 is aWairarapa District. full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and People of the Tribe of Ngatikahungunu whose names are hereunto subscribed And Witnesseth that on behalfWhaiao. of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and TheirPrice, £280. Assigns for ever in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred and eighty Pounds, of which one hundred and fifty Pounds (£150) to us paid by William N. Searancke on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our Land situated at Wairarapa and named the Whaiao the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To Hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of William N. Searancke District Commissioner is hereunto subscribed.Boundaries. These are the boundaries of the Land commencing at Te Rongo o Pahu i Makahakaha and up the Makahakaha stream to its confluence with the Matengatenga stream then (Eastward) up the Matengatenga stream to Paekohanga and on to its source thence (Southward) to the Pa o Arakaiwherohia on to Matangikaihau thence Eastward to Kahapahapa, Te Manawa kai Mangamanga and on to Kararau which it crosses at Pairangiaio and on to a small creek, a branch of the Korarau stream which it follows (Northward) to its junction with the Korarau it then turns Eastward and goes to Te Waiatoki iwa, Te Pukemongamonga to the Maringawai which it follows down to the foot of the Hill and then Northward to Tikorangi on to Toropapa o te Aokauwai thence straight across to the Wharo on to the Manga o te Whitau thence westward on the boundary of the Land sold by us to the Queen to the Rongo o pahu where the boundaries join.

Native reserve. [200 acres.] Two hundred acres within these boundaries which we have consented and which are also written here are to be reserved for us.
