Translation.

This Deed conveying land written on this day the twenty-eighth of June (28 June) in1858. 28 June. the year of our Lord 1858 is a deed of our full and true consent of us the Chiefs andWairarapa District. people of Ngatikahungunu whose names are hereunto affixed to entirely surrender a portion of our Land to Victoria the Queen of England and her Successors for ever.Matapihi-Rangitumau.
The Boundaries commenced at Matapihi going on to Te Taumata o te Wheu, TutuBoundaries. Koromiko Te Whara, Te Wai Whinau, The source of the Waitapu (river) Ariki rau o te Whatuhi, Te Whare o te Matetu, Taherepo, Te Rua a Marama, ka whiti i Whangaehu Wharepapaumu, Te Tipu, Te Roto, Te Pohue, and on to the Tokiakaite where it turns and goes westerly to Totomaringi, Te Waihinumanga Nga Mahanga Turukiponga, Te Kanapu Te Whakaruru Te Arahinehine Te Araawaiki Wakamauahi Otokokau ariki Te page 342Wera o te ekitea Hukuhiwhenua it joins the boundary of the Land sold formerly to the Queen and following the boundary to the Ahiaruhe it continues along the Boundary of the Land sold to the Queen till it reaches the Rotokura on the Kopuaranga (river) then following the course of the Kopuaranga to where it falls into the Ruamahanga (river) then down the Ruamahanga to Matapihi where the Boundaries join.

This piece of Land we have entirely given up on this day to Victoria the Queen of England The Balance of the payment will be settled when the Land is surveyed and the quality of the Land seen by the Europeans when this is done we will then complete the agreement for this Land.

Receipt for £100. And for our full and true consent One Hundred Pounds (£100) has been paid to us as witness our names and marks.
