1873. 24 October.Wairarapa District. This Deed made the twenty fourth day of October One thousand eight hundred and seventy-three between Te Kupa Rangiwinui Te RangirurupuniTararua. Te Manihera Te Rangitakaiwaho Kawana Hunia Te Hakeke Marakaia Tawaroa Hoani Meihana Te Rangiotu Matiaha Mokai and Karaitiana Te Korori (hereinafter called "the vendors" ) on behalf of themselves and all other members of the Ngatikahungunu Muaupoko and Rangitane tribes interested in the land hereinafter described of the one part and Her Majesty Queen Victoria (hereinafter called "the Queen") of the other part Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Two thousand seven hundred and ninety two pounds paid by James Booth Esquire of Whanganui on behalf of the Queen to the vendors theReceipt for £2,972. receipt of which they do hereby severally acknowledge The vendors do and each of them doth hereby convey arid assure unto the Queen Her heirs and successors all that Block of land estimated to contain One hundred and three thousand acres more or less situate in the Province of Wellington within the following boundaries that is to say Commencing on the North at Ngapuketurua on the boundary of the Block known as page 401 Kaihinu Number two thence following the boundary of the said Block to Makakahi thence following the western boundary of the Manawatu Block till it strikes the Ruamahanga River thence along the course of that river till it strikes the boundary of theBoundaries. [103,000 acres.] Kohangawariwari Papawhakarau and Kaiaho Blocks thence along that boundary till it strikes the Waingawa River, thence along that river to its junction with the Mangatarera-o-te-whakaturakau Creek thence up the course of the said creek till it strikes the western boundary of the Hikawera and Taratahi Blocks thence along that boundary till it strikes the Northern boundary of the Wainui and Waikanae Block thence in a Southwesterly direction to Taraotauhinu thence towards the North in a direct line to Patuotekakape and thence straight on to Ngapuketurua the commencing point as the same is delineated in the plan drawn hereon and coloured red With all the appurtenances thereunto belonging excepting a reserve for the vendors of one thousand acresTwo Native reserves excepted. at a lagoon known as Hapuakorari and another reserve for the vendors of one thousand acres at Mangatarera-o-te-whakaturakau these two reserves to be hereafter laid off by the Government of New Zealand To hold the said block of land with the appurtenances unto the Queen her heirs and successors for ever In witness whereof the said vendors have hereunto subscribed their names the day and year above mentioned.
