Translation

page 87

Translation.

We have received from Mr. McLean & Mr. Cooper twenty pounds in money (£20) 1852. August. Mangati (Land near). Boundaries. in payment for our piece of land given up by Toheroa on the side of the Bell Block (Mangati) boundary. The boundaries of this land begin at Puketapu, thence to Tarurutangi, on to Takapuohinerauhuia, where it turns at an angle and strikes Mr. Cooper's line at Matiti, thence it meets the boundary laid down by us for Mr. Bell. This is an act of generosity on the part of Toheroa to the Europeans on this day, at the near approach of his death; and he leaves his land as a sure possession to the Europeans for ever.
And having consented to this transaction, we hereby sign our names and marks on this 9th day of August A.D. 1852. Receipte for £20.
