Translation.

Know all men by these presents that in pursuance of the New Zealand Native Reserve1857. 29 January. Act 1856, I the undersigned Aboriginal Inhabitant of the Colony of New Zealand Karangapaihau do hereby give and convey unto Her Majesty Queen Victoria Her heirs and the Kings and Queens who may succeed her the land at Rangiawhia named Karangapaihau upon Free gift to Roman Catholic Bishop. trust to grant the said land unto the Bishop of the Catholic Church and to the Bishops who may succeed him to be held as the site of a Church for Christians professing the Forms of Worship of the Catholic Church.

Witness my hand on this day of January the twenty ninth 1857.
