Translation.

We have received from Mr. McLean this thirty first (31) day of July in the year of 1854. 31 July. Te Koutu. our Lord 1854 the sum of Twenty pounds once told being the first instalment for our land named Te Koutou situated at Hauraki The boundary commences at Ngatahae Receipt for £20, first instalment. thence up the course of the stream to Wharepoha thence to te Koutu and down the Awarahi to Hauraki and Ngatahae with its streams, timber, waters, minerals flax and Boundaries. whatsoever appertains thereunto which we now give up under the shining sun of this day to Victoria the Queen of England for ever. The final instalment will be paid when the Land has been surveyed.
