Translation.

1857. 13 October. Received by us this day the thirteenth (13) of October in the year of our Lord One Whangarei District. thousand Eight hundred and fifty seven 1857 the sum of Two hundred and fifty one pounds, one shilling stg £251 . 1 . 0 as the first instalment for our land Otaiheke which we this day make over as a lasting possession to Victoria Queen of England and to the Otaiheke. Kings and Queens who may succeed her for ever.
Receipt for £251 . 1 . 0, first instalment. The boundaries are these, commencing at the land of Rangaunu at the Wai-keri-a-Wera thence inland to the Hoteo Creek to Wai-te-Whaonga thence Northward to the Mangawhai boundary (the Hoteo Creek being the boundary) to Waititi thence turning Boundaries. backward to the sea to the Arai on the Mangawhai boundary thence coming on the sand to Te Wai-keri-a-Wera where the boundary joins.

The final payment for this block of land will be determined when the boundaries have been surveyed and the nature of the soil ascertained.

And in token of our having received this sum (specified above) and that the land also has been finally surrendered to the Queen we have hereunto signed our names and marks in the
