Translation.

We have received on this day, the second (2) of the days of January in the year of 1856. 2 January. our Lord 1856, the sum of sixty pounds (£60 .0 .0) being a payment for certain of our Whaingaroa and Aotea District lands which have been sold to the Grovernment at Aotea, Whaingaroa, Karioi, Te Akau, page 776and on to Waikato the total amount to be paid to us will be decided upon when all those lands shall have been purchased by Mr. McLean. Ngatiraukawa claims. Receipt for £60.
