Translation.

This Deed of sale of Land executed this second (2) day of October in the Year of Our 1857. 2 October.Manukau and Waikato District. Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven 1857 is a Deed of the full consent of Us the People and Chiefs of Waikato whose names are hereunto subscribed on our own Behalf and on Behalf of our Relatives and of our whole Race who shall be hereafter born to Sell and fully and entirely Convey a certain portion of our Land to Her Majesty Manukau. Victoria the Queen of England and to the Kings and Queens Her Successors for ever.
The Boundaries are as follows:—Commencing on the North West at the Heads of Boundaries. Manuka at "Rua o Waiaroa" thence inland Westward as far as "Wairua whakakai" thence right on to the Ocean at "Waipohue" thence down the West Coast along the Sea-bord as far as "Arapo" thence on inland North easterly to Wainui thence on to the Pa of "Puninga" thence going right on following the edge of the swamp as far as Pukekowhai thence down hill to the stream of "Waiwata" thence on along the course of the "Waiwata" stream as far as the "Matakawau" stream thence on along the course of the said stream till it reaches the "Manuka" harbor at the "Otamaniwha" bluff there it turns and follows the "Manuka" harbor till it arrives at the creek of "Te Wharau" there it turns and runs inland westward right on till it reaches the Waihakari stream crossing that stream and running right on to Opoua there it turns a little and runs straight to "te Pota" thence on to "Ruahine" and "Waipapa" till it reaches "Pa Aronga" there turning and running North westerly to"Kakaroa" thence on to the source of "Tatangarau" thence turning and running North eastward right on to "Puketutu" crossing the "Wakarongo" thence on till it reaches the Tree (this Tree is a Rewarewa) thence in a straight line to the "Tatangarau" stream thence on down the course of the page 342said stream as far as "Papa o Tutanaki" on the "Manuka" harbor there it turns and follows the main harbor of Manuka along the windings of the said harbor till it arrives at "te Rua o Waiaroa". There the Boundaries join.
Lands formerly sold to Rev. J. Hamlin. We consent unanimously to the pieces of land at "Oroua" at "Pukerewa" and at "Matakawau" included within these boundaries which were sold by us formerly to the Reverend James Hamlin.
Two places reserved: Ngaio and Rewaroa. Two pieces of land moreover included also within these boundaries we reserve. The "Ngaio" is one the extent of this piece is one (1) acre. The "Rewaroa" is the other the extent of this piece is five (5) acres.
Price £1,685. And in consideration of our consent fully and entirely to convey this portion of our land Her Majesty Victoria the Queen of England agrees of Her part to pay us for our Instalments received: land the sum of One Thousand six hundred and eighty five Pounds £1685 once told.

Certain instalments of these monies have been already received by us to wit the following. In the month of January 1848 the sum of One Hundred Pounds £100. On the twenty second (22) of March 1848 the sum of Twenty Pounds £20, On the twenty fifth (25) of March the sum of Fifty Pounds £50. On the twenty first (21) of June 1848 The sum of Twenty five Pounds £25. On the eighteenth (18) of July. 1848 the sum of Fifty Pounds £50. On the seventh (7) of September the sum of Two Hundred Pounds £200. These sums of we received from Mr Ligar. On the twenty second (22) of June 1854 the sum of Thirty pounds £30. On the twenty ninth (29) of June 1854 the sum of Fifteen Pounds £15. On the twenty first (21) of July 1854 the sum of Fifty Pounds £50. On the twenty second (22) of July 1854 The sum of fifteen pounds £15. On the twenty sixth (26) of July 1854 the sum of Fifty Pounds £50. On the fifth (5) of August 1854 the sum of Fifty Pounds £50. On the second (2) of October 1854 the sum of Thirty Pounds £30. The sums we received from Mr Commissioner McLean.

Now have we fully considered and wept over and bidden farewell to and entirely conveyed away this Land inherited by us from Our Fathers with its Rivers its Lakes its Waters its Hills its Trees its Rocks its Grass its Plains its Forests its Pleasant Places its Barren Spots and all Things above the surface of the Land or beneath its surface and all Things pertaining to the said Land which we have wholly and entirely surrendered under the shining Sun of this present Day for a sure Possession to Her Majesty Victoria the Queen of England and to the Kings and Queens Her Successors for ever.

500 acres reserved for Katipa Te Awarahi. It is agreed by His Excellency the Governor that Five Hundred (500) acres out of this Purchase shall be secured to Awarahi te Katipa.

Wherefore in token of our consent to all the Conditions contained in this Deed we have hereunto signed our Names and Marks.

And in token of the consent of Her Majesty the Queen of England to all the conditions contained in this Deed the Name of Donald McLean Esquire Chief Land Purchase Commissioner of New Zealand is hereunto signed.
