Translation.

1854. 18 March.Te-Pae-O-Te-Rangi.This Deed entered into on the 18th day of March 1854 the consenting of Te Wauterauke, Pera, Hoami, Himiona and the Chiefs of the Kawerau the consenting also of the Queen of England on her part, now we the owners of the Land set forth in this Deed consent to sell this Land to Queen Victoria for the sum of £800 Pounds given now into our hands it is further agreed to by the Queen of England on her part that there 10 per cent. on sales to be expended on Native purposes. shall be paid for the following purposes that is to say for the Founding of Schools in which persons of our race may be taught, for the Construction of Hospitals in which persons of our race may be tended for the payment of Medical Attendance for us for the Construction of Mills for us for the Annuities for our Chiefs or for other purposes of a like nature in which the Natives of this Country are interested, Ten per Cent. or Ten Pounds out of every Hundred Pounds put of monies from time to time received for this land when resold, For this we give up and make over to Victoria Queen of England her Heirs and Successors for ever this Land and all thereto belonging for ever and ever.
Boundaries. The Boundaries are these on the South by the Government line being the boundary of the Hikurangi block on the West by the Sea Shore on the North Pu o Tahinga in a direct line to Raupo Tamaki and on the East by the Government line of the purchase of
Two places reserved:
  • 1. Waitakerei.
Raupo Tamaki, the portions reserved for us in this land are these, Waitakere and Piha, the boundaries of Waitakere are as follows on the South from Pukekowhai to Toetoeroa on the West by the Sea Shore and on to the Pu o Tahinga on the East by Toetoeroa and on to Mangemangehoa and to the Taipa being the junction with the Northern
  • 2. Piha.
boundary. The Boundaries of Piha are these as reserved for us, On the South from the Ahu and on the Government boundary of Hikurangi to the Wharau On the East from the Wharau in a direct line to Raurahue on the North from Raurahue down in a direct line to Rangikahu and on in a direct line to the Waha being the Sea Shore On the West by the Sea Shore. A sketch of this land is on this Deed.
