Translation.

1860. 24 August.Kaipara District.This Deed written on this twenty fourth day of August in the Year of Our Lord 1860 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and People of the Tribes Ngatiwhatua and Mangamata whose names are hereunto subscribed And Mairetahi. Witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria. Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and Their Assigns for ever in consideration of the Sum of two hundred and ninety seven pounds ten shillings Pounds (£297 . 10 . 0) to us paid by John Rogan onbehalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our Land situated at Kaipara and named Mairetahi the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with page 215its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To Hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of John Rogan Commissioner is hereunto subscribed. These are the boundaries Boundaries. [5,950 acres.] of the Land commencing at the entrance of the Mairetahi river following the survey line bearing 319°. 5′. 25700 links to Te Tuki 311°. 45′, 1558 links to Poaute 310°. 10′. 2490 links 295°. 30′. 800 links, 302°. 30′. 2160 links 299°. 0′. 1890 links to Opanui 326°. 20′. 13419 links crossing Kereta to the sea coast thence along the coast northerly 10100 links, thence by the survey line bearing 140°. 10′. 14638 links crossing Kaianganga and arriving at Puke Mapou 154°. 50′. 19012 links to Marahemu 158°. 30′. 4143 links 159°. 30′. 3340. links to Karukaruhui thence along the Kaipara Harbour to Te Ikatauhou, Te Puna kuaka and on to Mairetahi River where the boundaries meet Mairetahi Reserve excepted. [350 acres.] Exclusive of one Native Reserve at Mairetahi containing 350 acres the boundaries of which have been defined in our presence.
